FAQ
Can I use non-Bambu filament in the AMS system, and will half-used spools work without getting stuck?
Yes, you can use third-party filament, but you’ll need to manually input details like brand, type, and colour in the software if it lacks RFID tags. Half-used spools generally work fine, but cardboard ones may cause dust buildup or jams—seal edges or use adapters for a better fit. Bambu filament isn’t required to start, though official spools ensure seamless RFID integration. Users recommend buying reusable empty spools from Bambu Lab’s store for non-official filament
Does the H2D come with starter filament, and where can I buy compatible filament easily?
No, it doesn’t include any test or starter filament, which surprises many new users. Bambu filament isn’t widely available on Amazon or at stores like Micro Center, so order directly from Bambu Lab’s site. For alternatives, Geeetech PLA is recommended as a cheap, reliable option that works well with the H2D, though colors are limited. Matte PLA is suggested for supports with PETG to improve adhesion.
What are common issues like wiper jams, extruder clogs, or first-layer adhesion, and how to fix them?
Wiper jams are frequent (“poop” buildup on flinger teeth)—clean manually with an Allen key. Extruder clogs from AMS often stem from filament issues; try external spools or a second AMS for reliability. First-layer adhesion on the larger plate is good but may require higher bed temps due to inaccurate readings; use 3DLAC promoter for PLA or soap/water cleaning. For dual-nozzle waste reduction, nozzle 2 can retract/reload during nozzle 1 printing, but flush times (e.g., for 0.2mm nozzles) aren’t configurable yet.
What must-have accessories or upgrades do I need for the H2D, like for laser or high-speed printing?
Essentials include nozzle flow blockers, silicone socks (to prevent support damage), smooth PEI sheets, and cleaning tools like needle-nose pliers or IPA for the build plate. For laser upgrades (planned for June 2025), the kit includes modules and an external air pump; the full combo has built-in air assist. High-flow hotends are optional for 600mm/s speeds. No spare nozzles are available yet, but we’ll wait for the Darkmoon 3D ICE plate for better adhesion. The vision encoder (separate) boosts accuracy to 50µm.
